Carver Knowles have been made aware that National Grid Electricity are in the early viability stages of removing some of the existing 400kV Electricity Pylons running through the Cotswold AONB and re-laying them underground.

The project is part of National Grids Visual Impact Provision (VIP), which aims to reduce the impact of existing transition lines in England and Wales Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB’s).

National Grid have already taken steps to improve similar impacts elsewhere and are completing similar projects in Dorset, The Peak District, Snowdonia and The North Wessex Downs. The Cotswolds are the next area that have been identified for improvements.

The project is within its early stages and National Grid have recently written to landowners requesting access to complete walkover surveys over the next 12 months. We would recommend early engagement with National Grid to enable the raising of issues early and allow time to find alternative solutions.

As the project is under statutory powers if you are impacted by the scheme you are entitled to be represented by an agent and National Grid will cover all of your costs.

Carver Knowles already have a number of instructions and are liaising with National Grid’s representatives regarding the project. If you would like to discuss the project in further detail and to see how Carver Knowles could help you, please contact Mike Cluley or Josh Balsdon on 01684 853400 to discuss in more detail.
