Natural England has re-launched the very successful Woodland Creation Grant. This provides funding for planting of woodlands, associated protection items and infrastructure to assist its establishments.

If the application is successful you will have two years to purchase and plant/install the capital items.

Some of the more popular items include:

  • Tree planting (£1.28/tree)
  • Fencing (£4/m)
  • Sheep netting (£4.90/m)
  • Wooden gate (£390/gate)

Grants are worth up to £6,800/ha for woodland creation.

The minimum area per application is 3 hectares with minimum block sizes of 0.5 hectares.

Once the woodland is planted and the final capital claim is paid, eligible applicants can apply for a separate multi-year grant to maintain the newly created woodland for 10 years, which is called the Woodland Creation Maintenance Grant.

The deadline for applications will be the same as Higher Tier Agreements which will be confirmed next year.
